Birthday Wishes

I'm not quite sure how it happened, I don't know if I breathed, tripped or what...but my niece will very soon be turning 12! 12, I still remember being 12 and longing to turn 13!

Here is the card I made for her...

She's a very out going 12 year old, loves her mobile/make-up and boys *gasp* (I know 12!). So I knew she probably wouldn't appreciate anything too cute and frilly! Hence the monochrome look.

The butterfly I made by folding mulberry paper, using ribbon for detail. The gorgeous image is from the stunning "Polly Pickleberry" CD Rom by Willow designs (thanks Sharon). The alphabet is Waltzing Mouse -Victorian Alphabet, what I'd do without this set I do not know!

Recipe: Polly Pickleberry digi image, Waltzing Mouse -Victorian Alphabet stamps, Papermania Scalloped edge card, Kraft/White/Black Cardstock, Mulberry/ribbon, Adhesive Gems, Memento-Tuxedo Black ink.

Happy New Year to all who celebrate. At school my children have been celebrating the "Year of the Dragon" in style. They've enjoyed delicious authentic cuisine, crafted lanterns, dragons (of course), hats and more. They recieved some 2012 "Elton Johnish" style glasses and...

...well, it wouldn't be the same without a fortune cookie! And what a lovely message, so true. I think we are all guilty of getting carried away at times, when all that really matters -is right in front of us.

A Crochet Doily

I promised you all a bucket load of cards this week, but I'm gonna have to put those on hold for a while -apologies. I've been working on a commission all week and with more in the pipe line, I'm going to be a super-busy girl for a little while longer.

I didn't want to leave you empty handed, so I'd like to share this little crochet creation...

I created the doily with some multi-coloured DK yarn that I bought in Berlin last Summer. Multi-coloured yarns are a great way to add detail/effect without the constant changing of yarns.

Whizzing by this morning to share the "Valentines" cards I made last week. I shan't be sending them all ;) I made a few extras to put into the box at my childrens school. It's been a while since I've topped them up, they usually do very well. I've had some great feedback.

Keeping with the same design throughout, just changing a few elements.

I used Papertrey Ink "Heart Prints" and "Polka Dot Basics" stamp sets.

The cardstock is Córdinations and the Papertrey Ink -Heart die creates the aperture.

To create the border along the bottom of this card I inked only the top part of the same heart image.

The heart die-cuts did not go to waste, they give the added "awww" as you open the card.

Finally, the co-ordinating envelopes.

Recipe: Papertrey Ink-Heart Prints/Polka Dot Basics II stamp sets, PTI New Canvas ink, Memento -Tuxedo Black ink, Tim Holtz Distress Ink -Tattered Rose, Adhesive gems, Córdinations coloured cardstock.

Tools: PTI Heart dies, Corner chomper.

Happy Birthday #3

Birthday card number 3. Although a girly girl, I wanted to make something a little different for Sophia as she's a little "Crafter" in the making :) I created this simple, fun design which I hope she will love.

I used cream cardstock to create the base card, folded in half and then die cut my window.

TIP: If like me you want to create a window with an embossed background, make sure you die cut your window first! Otherwise as you feed your card back into your die-cutting machine, it will flatten your embossing.

The co-ordinating envelope using the same Waltzing Mouse "Bitty Banners/Victorian Alphabet" stamps.

Since returning to school the kids have tallied up no less than 3 party invites already! They have a way better social life than I do ...hmmph! So yes, I've been card making again :)

Two of the invites were for girly girls, both names starting with L. So I took that as my inspiration for these, almost identicle cards.

I used Córdinations cardstock and the embossing folder is by Craft Concepts -Starry Night for the background.

I created the embellishments using Papertrey Ink(PTI) "Heart Dies", PTI Cream Felt & Kraft cardstock.

The alphabet stamps are Waltzing Mouse(WM) "Victorian Alphabet".

I created an insert which I decorated with the childs names over the WM "Bitty Banners" stamps.

The Banners I stamped in Tim Holtz distress ink -Tattered Rose, a pale shade allowing me to stamp the name over the top in "Memento -Rich Cocoa".

Recipe: Waltzing Mouse Stamps-Bitty Banners, Victorian Alphabet, Papertrey Ink-Kraft cardstock/Cream Felt, Adhesive gems, THDI -Tattered Rose/Worn Lipstick, Memento-Rich Cocoa Ink

Wednesday already and yes you are right, 3 days/3 cards! It's been a very long time since I indulged this much in my card stash :)

This was a fun card to make, especially the bow!

The Stamps are "For the Luv of Art", from the same set I used yesterday.

An elegant design that could be used for those treasured occasions.

And the bow -oh the bow! Isn't it lush (I know how to blow my own trumpet don't I?)? It's simply mulberry ribbon folded and wraped in the centre with some gold organza ribbon. Puff it up a little and attach to the card -that's it. Finished off with some gems for a little glam.

I really love how this card turned out, there is very little to it I know -there's just something about it!

Sending you Sunshine

I don't know about you, but we are deffinately lacking in the "sunshine" department just now! When a glimmer of sun shines through, it's almost instantly draped with the gloomiest of grey clouds. As it's January (and let's face it we probably aren't in for a stream of sunshine any time soon) I thought I'd create a card! A card to spread sunshine and the joy that comes with it.

The leaf stamp was a freebie from the "September 2011" Issue of "Craft Stamper" magazine which I inked with Tim Holtz-Antique Linen. The heart I cut from an embossed piece of cream cardstock using the "Craft Concepts-In Stitches" embossing folder.

The sentiment is a "My Time Made Easy" stamp from the "Sensational Sentiments" set which I inked with Memento-Rich Cocoa to keep the colour scheme neutral. A co-ordinated envelope to finish and voila!

If there is one thing I enjoy photographing almost as much as my kids, it's got to be baked goods! Preserving your efforts, as let's face it -they don't last very long!

Cupcakes are great fun to photograph as...

they come in bulk...

they are unique...

you can practice composition...

a good opportunity to use natural "lighting"...

I use a DSLR Canon EOS 600D which is much more sensitive to light than my previous EOS 45OD. Which allows me more opportunities to use "natural light" and I have to say "Natural Light" is the key.

Next time you pull out your camera, give it a go and turn off your flash -you'll be surprised! Carefull though, you'll need a steady hand :)

Hello 2012!

Happy New Year

2012 has arrived, how's it working for you so far/things back to normal yet? The school run continued this morning after a much needed break and we all seem happily refreshed and prepared to start another year over.

We spent Christmas at home this year and travelled to Germany to see the new year in. And for the first time in 7 years I DID actually stay awake til midnight! I know, what a party animal! The fireworks were amazing and the excitement/intrigue of what the New Year will bring is always a little chilling (in a nice way).

2011 was a great year for me. My dream to design for Magazines came true and I couldn't be more proud each time I turn the page and spot a publication. The excitment never wares off for me :) I discovered a wonderful new hobby, one that I'm confident is here to stay -Crochet that is (just incase you've been hiding under a rock somewhere). It puts a huge grin on my face when I see something blossom from a ball of yarn and that is what it's all about -what makes you happy.

So what's in store for 2012? Well, I have a whole bunch of ideas thrown onto paper -mainly ideas for my blog and personal achievements. I'm most deffinately (really hoping/fingers crossed) going to be more productive with my time. I'm not going to stress over those things in life that simply aren't worth stressing over. And here's a big one -I'm going to try not to get tempted by new products and use the perfectly suitable and vast range of stash I already have! I did say "try" ;)

My Blog is a huge personal achievement, I love my Blog! I love creating for it, I love posting and love to inspire people. I am, however going to change a few things. One of my downfalls has to be my strive for perfection, if I do something -I do it properly. Although my goal, it often leaves me snowed under with never-ending lists, photography and editing which all eats up a huge amount of time. So what I think I'm going to do, is create throughout the week and set aside a day for photography, editing and then another day to schedule posts for the following week. This will hopefully allow me more time to do what I love to do and in turn will produce a constant flow of creativity on my blog.

So, can it be done? Time will tell :) I'm going to leave you with my latest sketch...

How did you like all of those scheduled posts? I'm so pleased they all worked! Thank you to all those who left such lovely comments, I do love to know what you think.

Not long to go now, how are you holding up? It's all systems go here, as per usual the Christmas rush is upon us even despite my best efforts to be organised. Plans to get my daughters fringe cut today failed when the postman didn't show up until midday! And shopping, oh the dreaded food shop looms!

We have been keeping ourselves busy :) I finally went to see "Breaking Dawn" last night and concidering the reviews weren't very good -I enjoyed it (and the chinese)! Here's what else we've been up to.

A spot of baking...

...and there I was thinking (hoping) I could have 5 mins "me" time! Fresh out of the bath my little elf had to join in (but can I say) -she did remarkably well! They were delish concidering it was my (our) first ever batch! With the left over pastry we made some exploding jam tarts! You live-you learn. Now I know not to use soo much jam next time around!

Eagerly awaiting the verdict from Santa on PNP...

...you must try this, even if you don't have kids! Finally Santa can say my daughters name this year, unlike previous years.

Mmmm, yummy yorkshires...

...I'm no Delia when it comes to Roast dinners, yet I do love to indulge. So concidering it's either my own attempt or nothing -I had a dummy run Xmas dinner at the weekend and check out those Yorkshires -very impressed! The recipe came from the Hairy Bikers "Mum's Know Best" cook book.

More cake...

...for hubby to take to work. This is such an easy cake to make and tastes great. The American guy my husband works with even said it was the best cake he's had since he left America! *Grin*

So as you can see, lots of food and treets on the go. Everything is starting to feel festive now even without the snow.

Should I not make it back before the big day I have scheduled a post :) Enjoy the festivities peeps.

...of the year -don't panic ;) This one was created for a lovely teacher, one who was lucky (is that the right word?) enough to teach both of my children.

I used a new pattern from "Cute and Easy Crochet", a 4.5mm crochet hook and King Kole Merino Blend DK-Shade: 647 from Deramores.

Sketching! Inspired by ♥my boy♥

Well, it's no secret that I love to dabble in all things creative. From cardmaking to scrapbooking, altered art to crochet.... there is NO limit to all the things I'd like to try.

When I was a kid, I loved to draw. My son is very much like me in this way and will opt for his drawing table over the tv any day! This little guy can draw for Europe and his pictures are little works of art. The detail he creates at such an early age is inspiring. I'm one of those Mums who could NEVER throw away a drawing *GASP* at the thought! So as you can imagine, I have quite a haud.

So thanks to my little Prince, I've taken to drawing once more.

Creating something from nothing is what powers me, the not knowing of what will become is exciting.

So with a pice of A4, a pencil and finally putting my Promarkers to good use -here's a peek at my first creation...

OK, so I switched it to B/W to capture the detail. This picture I assure you (for me) is FULL of colour. Hubby: "I like it, but I don't get it" to which I replied "it's abstract art, you are not supposed to!"

For my first drawing in years I'm pleased how it turned out and I've been thinking what to do with it? A few ideas so far:

Create a Note Book with a printed cover of my design.
Create sets of Cards, scale down to C6.
Put it on a mug -I am the Queen of photo mugs!
Frame and display.
Create my own material, how cool would that be? A nice pair of "abstract curtains" perhapps?

Whenever I make anything, the first question I'm asked is "Is it for me Mummy"? So needless to say she was thrilled to hear me say "Yes"!

I made the scarf with some yarn from the local bargain shop! Who wants to guess how much this cost to make? You'll be surprised!

I simply crocheted rows of 2tr/2dc continuously, added shell detail to the ends and finished off with gorgeous blooms. I'm pleased to say, she actually enjoys wearing this one-it must be the colour!

Oh Traditional!

Red and green *gasp*, from the gal who doesn't do "Traditional"! When it comes to colour schemes, this is pretty shocking for me! So why on earth did I go down that road? Well, I spotted this card by the lovely Rosie and it made me realise that "Traditional" is not so dull after all! So I challenged myself to overcome that fear and here are the results.

A batch of cards in Red & Green (oh how I love to batch!)

I opted to scrap the layers and go for a blank canvas. This allows the colour to speak volumes, colour that I kept to the bare minimum.

I used a whole variety of stamps on these cards, the main image from Stampavie and the gogeous swirl by Heidi Swapp. The Sentiments are from the Papertrey Ink -Signature Christmas set and that gorgeous star was a free gift from Craft Stamper magazine.

I used both TH Distress ink-Barn Door and Memento -Tuxedo Black and higlighted areas of the image with promarkers (Berry Red/Grass&Satin).

Some co-ordinated envelopes, adhesive gems and pearls, hole punched snow...

...and some gorgeous 12mm wide organza ribbon to finish off my "Traditional" fest!

These should already be at their final destination. This is one of my favourite Christmas images and I'm sure it'll be back out next year too!

On a mission!

It's one of those weeks, lots of plans=lots of jobs =lots of posts -just need the time to do so! So I've ditched the sleepy festive music and with "Moves Like Jagger" blaring in the background, I'm feeling a little more energetic lol! My aim this morning/afternoon is to schedule some blog posts, so hopefully you'll get to see what I've been working on before next Christmas! So if you spot a post at the crack of dawn tomorrow -you'll know I've been successful!

A little catch up...

Well, my little monkeys are both back in school and enjoying their last week full of parties and performances. Thankfully we did make it to my daughters Christmas performance and can I say (as biast as I am) -she was the most adorable Reindeer!

We had a joint crafty session at the weekend...

Here are some mini cards I made for our neighbours. After the week I'd had I opted to use stickers -a total cop out I know, but quick and easy! Continuing with the "Cop Out" theme (with a little more detail) I made a couple of last minute cards for the kids French and Music teachers -who are both lovely!

...we're walking in the air... These stickers came free with a magazine one Christmas (not sure which).

When the kids came home from school yesterday we baked cookies to hang on the tree. I don't know who had more fun :) Somehow we ended up with a lot less flour throughout the kitchen than our last attempt, which has to be a bonus!

Upcycled hat!

Well peeps, here's a little something I made during half term -so weeks ago now! Finally it's getting it's 5 mins of fame!

I spotted this tutorial over on Alisa Burke's truely inspirational blog. If you are into all types of crafts, this is a wonderful place to stop by and indulge!

The hat itself is made up from an old t-shirt my husband so kindly donated to my needy cause! The flower you've seen before here and ...DID YOU SPOT IT? Ha ha -yup it's the other frilly sock! If you did miss the blog post and have no clue what I am refering to, check out what happened to the other here!

The tutorial instructs you to use material glue, however I used my sewing machine. What do you think? I think my daughter fits in very well right now, pop her next to the other Christmas elves and she'd blend in with the best ...lol!

A Blog Candy Winner

A heartfelt thanks goes out to everyone who left birthday wishes, sent cards, fab gifts and to all those who joined in my Birthday Candy.

Well, my day did start off well until I had the phone call to come and collect me poorly son from school :( So after that, all plans changed and we ended up eating fish fingers amongst coughing and spluttering. I was the most gutted he was unable to take part in his Christmas performance.

Getting Festive

Ho Ho Ho...it's almost Christmas! Well, ok soon anyways. We've had a lovely weekend in prep for the big day, followed by a huge wrapping session last night. So even though we've no snow, things are finally starting to feel much more Christmasy.

The kids really enjoying decorating the Christmas tree, their yearly chore - "Dasher" in action...

We have all sorts going on this week, including two Christmas performances at school. Last year my son was a reindeer, this year it's my daughters turn...

What do you think of the Crochet "Red Noses"? The first one I made (sported by my little boy elf) I thought was just too red! So I attempted another, this time using a white cotton for the string to reduce distraction from the nose itself! So beautifully posed by "Little Miss Rudolf" herself.

On Sunday we ventured out to the Aachen Weihnachtsmarkt (Christmas Market) in Germany. It was my first time, it was huge, incredibly busy and very cold. But lovely all the same and we had a nice walk followed by lunch.

Check out my highlights, it was about time I had my roots done! Oh, and my daughters boots that she loves so much I caught her with them on in bed! She's so "me" ;)

It's not Christmas in our house without these! Thanks Oma...

Mollie Makes -Tube Scarf Tutorial

Mollie Makes Issue 7 had me marking almost every other page with post it's! It was full of fun, creative, "do-able" projects.

One that I just had to try almost instantly, was the "Tube Scarf" tutorial on page 20. It was approaching Rememberance day and with some gorgeous "red" cotton material to hand, I knew this was the perfect project.

I have to say, it was super simple to put together -great for a beginner like me! I love how professional it looks and even more so that I can say I made it!

I recently made my sister a loop scarf for her birthday and she loved it. The thing is, my two nieces loved it too! So here are a couple more I threw together, oh so beautifully modelled by my little dumplings!

Images like these are so pretty, that over embellishing would simply distract the eye. To add a little soft detail, I created a cross stitch look with my big bite and some 6mm black organza ribbon.

What more do you need?

Adding a blast of colour for the New Year ahead, I used the stunning "Sweetcorn-Pointy Poinsettias". I used sentiment ribbons, a little ribbon and some gems for a delicate touch.

I just adore this shade of yellow, it's so bold and makes me smile just looking at it.

I'm feeling really festive right now, can't wait for the traditions to start. I need a few evenings next week to start wrapping pressies! "Santa baby" playing in the background, a nice Baileys on ice, a mince pie or two...........*bliss*.

Fun at the Fair

This weekend was the annual Christmas Fair at my childrens school and we had an absolute ball! We stayed right til the end, had a mince pie or 2 or 3 or... too many, lots of cha -you get the picture!

Here's a few things we got up to...

I bought these delightful jars from one of the stalls run by a friends husband no least! I have to say, I just fell in love with the packaging! Is it just me? The Marmalade is just delicious, I've yet to try the Lemon Curd but I can't wait!

Indulged and just had to purchase these...

The kids turned into festive bunnies...

They had a chat to Santa, bought pressies for Mummy and Papa in the secret room, decorated biscuits, ate hot dogs, chocolate coins galore.....

And to top it all off, we won a raffle prize!

Oh my am I in love with these...

It never siezes to amaze me just what you can create simply using some yarn and a crochet hook! This is my latest make and probably my most satisfying to date. I could just sit and look at them for ages!

Remember the baby blanket I crocheted a couple of weeks back? Well, I had no use for it so it ended up in my daughters room for her babies. Then a few days later I discovered a friend is expecting a baby girl, typical! I wouldn't dream of taking the blanket from her and I remembered a little project from my beloved Crochet Unravelled book which really had to try. These scrummy little booties.

Upcycling some old jeans...

My husband had been after an IPad for a while and when he finally took the plunge he called on me to create a case for it. Well, it's fair to say he was less than impressed with the girly, floral materials I had in my weeny stash, so (and it was all his idea) "why don't you use an old pair of jeans"?

And there he was thinking he wasn't "crafty"? Ha, if you're reading ;) We both had the same lightbulb moment to use the "pocket" as a pocket for the charger etc... And look how it turned out. What do you think?

The IPad is snug as a bug in a rug and right on trend, not to mention functional with the pocket! Smiles all round.

Stamping Bella Beauties

The Stamping Bella "LuLu collection" really is stunning. It's been a while since I was on the site and after checking just now, they now have even more of the beauties! So keeping with the "Dust off and actually use" theme I'm into just now, I got to work.

Now these gals needed very little embellishing in my eyes, so here's what I did with them...

Harriet

A gorgeous girl whom inspired my design. Cupcakes all round!

The lace ribbon around my image is actually that cut from my daughters frilly ankle socks that no-longer fit! Cool hu? You'll never guess what I did with the other! All will be revealed.

Gertie

A precious image teamed with some Dainty Doily stamps by Waltzing Mouse Stamps. Embellished with a dash of colour in the form of a quilled heart (one I made earlier) and my beloved clear adhesive gems.

I distressed the edges of my raised panel ever so slightly before attaching. What more do you need?

Bessie

Isn't she just the sweetest? The thought of taking the attention away from her with layers and elements threw me into next week, so I held back with some simple stitching, ribbon bows and doodling.

Some glitzy green pen here and there to only enhance her beauty.

TIP: All of the cards include an insert made with your bog standard A4 paper, then simply punching the edges. A simple, cheap addition which makes a huge difference. It also hides the stitching!

Good morning sweet Bloggers, boy am I glad to be back! An unexpected sickness bug hit us last week, so I ended up playing nurse! I don't know about you, but I can't bare to see my little ones ill -it brakes my heart. So, (without tempting fate) with mornings to myself again, I have a whole bunch of stuff to share with you over the coming days.

Firstly I'd like to share a card that I made for my sister, who's birthday was yesterday. Happy Birthday Becci!

I used the "Pink Petticoat -Brocade" paper collection in olive which I teamed with the "Pink Petticoat-Sentiment Ribbons".

Some pretty, girly elements ...adhesive gems, ribbon, Martha Stewart-lace border punch and that gorgeous "Marianne Creatables -Model 1" die threaded with white satin ribbon. These make a great addition to any card.

TIP: I like to die cut a bunch at a time, so I have them handy for a quick make!

Live the Life you've Imagined

Morning all! It's a good day, very cold but good. Not only did I get to wear one of my scarves this morning, but the "Parent/Teacher conference's" at school yesterday were brill! Both of my treasures are doing extremely well, I'm so proud of them. The teachers were confident that they could go on to become anything they wanted to be. Which kind of ties in nicely with this card that I made this weekend.

You know when you spot something and you just have to have it? Well this stamp set was one of those. And I'm truely ashamed to say, I ordered this last November and this is the first time I've used it.

Which got me thinking!

So I decided this week I'd not only use those products that "I just had to have" and have never seen the light of day", but also to use techniques that I love yet very rarely incorperate into my designs these days.

I'm pleased how this card turned out, I managed to use all the images from the set on this one card which is unheard of for me. I used little dimesion in areas and simply let the colours and glitz work for me.

I have to say it wasn't so tricky as I expected, although I do need to sort my tension out a bit! I managed to cast on and off (not entirely correct) which pleased me (easily pleased) and I hope to pick this up just like I did Crochet. We'll see...

How was your weekend? Mine was gone before I knew it had arrived. I don't know about you but since the clocks went back, it's such a challenge and a half getting out of bed in the morning! I have to say, scraping ice off the car doesn't fill me with much joy either! So less of the ranting....

The kids have 1/2 days at school this week, so I'm not sure how much creativity I'm going to fit in. I do have a few cards to share once they are photographed, so do pop back to see those. Promise you they are worth it :)

A Crochet Baby Blanket

Before anyone jumps to the wrong conclusions, no I'm very happy with my 2 babies! I was, however itching to have a go at crocheting a blanket. I knew it was going to be a while before I could venture onto something worthy of a night in on the couch, so I opted for the next best thing -a baby blanket.

Pattern -Sirdar Snuggle knit Blankets, Yarn -Sirdar Baby Bonus DK sourced from Deramores

As I don't know anyone with a new born, Amelie has very willingly volunteered to use it for her babies.

I used an 8mm crochet hook and something quite interesting (and new to me) the pattern called for crocheting 2 strands of "Double Knit" yarn together. I now see that this is an opportunity to create something with a "Chunky" weight whilst utilising leighter yarn. This also made this project very cost effective, I'd estimate you could crochet 2 of these blankets for about 5GBPounds.

This was fun, quick and cute to do and I couldn't resist the butterfly composition!

To anyone out there who has yet to discover Crochet -I'd urge you to give it a go, it's so rewarding.

An Apron fit for a Princess!

Materials sourced from the bargain bucket in IKEA.

I used a pattern from a book, called "Sewing Clothes Kids Love" which I was pretty convinced would be a good place to start for a novice like me. With my new sewing machine (that actually works) I now have the ability to get my moneys worth and what better place to start than cute kids clothes. Kids love colour, they love frills, bows, clashes....you name it, anything goes. So although I'd probably be a little reserved to create something for myself (just now), experimenting for my little sweetheart seemed like the ideal place to start.

Now here's the thing - I'm a "Look at the pictures-Read the instructions when it all goes wrong" kind of gal. I can't deny it, I've always been like it. Unless I'm 200% dedicated to something, with my array of hobbies/lack of time, I always end up taking the quick route which...doesn't always work! This is where I advise you to always read a pattern thoroughly before you begin, however that would be hypercritical of me, so I shan't.

But, and here's the big BUT...there is potential in everything we do, especially when the outcome is only limited to our imagination. With the batch of (falsely cut) materials before me, I thought "what the hec", turned my machine on and started stitching away anyways. The result, a beautiful little apron which ties at the back, reversable with a negative look - red on white, white on red.

So, my first attempt didn't work...or did it?

Aint it funny how...

...you can go for months with not even a sniffle, then all of a sudden you come down with everything at once? Well, that's kind of how it's been in our house this last month! Just as we thought we were all back in the running, Mr Germ Ball struk again! The amount of tissues we've been through this week is ridiculous and if I never smelt "Olbas Oil" again, it would be too soon! Still, I guess it could be worse.

This morning I want to share a couple of things I've been upto recently, as you know I can't sit still for 5 minutes (even when ill)!

Some mini cupcakes! These were for Halloween and I have to say what a big hit they were. My daughter who quite openly "doesn't eat cake" ate 6, one after the other. What a triumph. I'm guessing it was the size that appealed to her as quite literally one mouthful, and they were gone. It hardly seems worth the effort, yet when I look at this photo and remember how much Amelie enjoyed them....*Grin*.

There can't be many people out there who don't like (if not love) chocolate. Well, I'm gunna make you all jealous now... guess where we were at the weekend (snot rags at the ready)? The Lindt Factory in Aachen, Germany. What a place, isles upon isles of chocolate, Lindt chocolate and of course we couldn't come away without stocking up! Remember the Mug Cosies I made for the teachers Xmas gifts? I shall be stuffing those with the Chocolate Santa's and bars -YUMM!

Ok, so not everything we do at home includes eating! I also have the photography bug right now, I'm getting very into experimantal shots and trying my hand at "Shutter Speed" variations. Anyone who knows me, know's my camera is like a 3rd hand. I'm forever trying to improve my skills, learn about all the elements of photography, what happens when I push certain buttons and more importantly -why? I'm reading a book at the moment called "Understanding Shutter Speed" by Bryan Peterson and it's simply brilliant. I have learnt so much already, all of which I've been putting into practice with my oh so willing volunteer!

To make the flower that little bit more festive, I added a drop of irridescent glitter glue to the edge of each layer (see above).

Clean and Simple is all the rage right now and I used the exact technique to create this card. No layers, no loose embellishments, no faff........just colour, style and pizazz!

I used a mix of "Waltzing Mouse" and "Papertrey Ink" stamps and my much loved distress inks!

There's something very satisfying about CAS. I'm not sure if it's the super fast speed at which they can be produced, the thriftiness (no embellies=no expense) or is it the bold, clean freshness that is so appealing? What the hec, it's quick and fun!

A hottie in a scarf...

...my hottie! Posing for his very demanding wife ;)

He has been so patient watching me produce all those fancy, prancy ladies scarves, so it was about time I made one for him. I used 4 balls of "Sirdar Connemara Chunky - 358" from Deramores and I just love the outcome! I also have a "6 year old" fan who wears it at every opportunity, so I think I'm gunna have to make a mini version!

I didn't use a pattern, I simply crocheted 25 dc in width and kept going til my yarn ran out! It's super soft and such a pretty colour too -can I say "pretty" for a mans scarf?

A Spookylicious Mug Cosie Tutorial

Here's hoping you are enjoying the festivities, any "Trick or Treaters" yet? Last week was dedicated to Halloween and Autumn over on the Quirky Boots blog, full of lots of creative inspiration. The lovely Deanne asked me if I'd like to create a project to feature and of course I said yes!

So if you didn't already see it here, here it is...

"Fill with lolly pops or other treats for the perfect table decoration, a great addition to any Halloween Party. Or simply indulge in comfort, whilst you wait for the “Trick or Treat”.

and here's how to create it:

Using “Chunky Yarn” and a 7mm crochet hook….

Chain 9
Row 1 1 Double Chain (DC) into 2nd stitch from hook, DC into next 7 stitches.
Row 2 *Chain 2, Treble into next stitch, Treble into next 6 stitches (til end).
Row 3/4 Chain 1, DC into next 8 stitches (til end)*
Row 5-22 Repeat (*-*), finishing with 2nd row of Double Chains.
Row 23 Chain 25, join with DC into 1st stitch of last (DC) row, DC into next stitch, 1 DC into each 25 stitches to create the loop and join with 7th stitch from previous row.
Fasten off and tie in ends with a wool/tapestry needle.
To finish, attach a blue button in the centre of row 4 and thread orange lace into a bow through the 3rd row of trebles.

... HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Sharing a few photos of my little spooks in the festive spirit in the early hours of this morning!!!

Check out my babies homework! He did this a couple of weeks ago and I knew I had to share it today. So here it is...

Pan holder

So I've had this book "Sewing in no time" for a few weeks now and have been itching to give one of the patterns a go. So far I've only created one off "Katie Creations" with my machine, so it was good fun to see how it would all turn out! I decided to try the "Pan Holder" as I loved the quilted look and it's actually something I could get use from. So away I went and here's the result...

Scarfing the night away!

Hey peeps, I have another crochet make to share today, something I've been working on when I find a spare half hour here and there.

Yarn from Deramores -Patons "Fab Big"100% Acrylic-Shade 02347 /10mm Crochet Hook

I didn't use a pattern, simply crocheted repetitive rows of various types of stitch. 25 chains in width and 60 rows in length, stitched together to form a loop. I used a super chunky yarn, a lovely chocolate brown and it's super soft. I needed two balls in the end, not bad for less than a tenner?

It was kind of weird using such a big crochet hook, but the results were much swifter to achieve. I've just recieved 2 more crochet hooks 15mm & 20mm, they scare me just looking at them but I'm very excited to see what I can create with those! They look a little like something you may find on the Dentist's table!

I really want to make a blanket but think I'll hold out til I get bored of making scares -if that'll ever happen!

There's nothing like a card to cheer you up when the need arises. I'd like to share another card that I made for a lovely Blogger friend.

I used the "A Spot of Tea" stamp set from My Time Made Easy, such a great set, I really must try and use it more often.

As you know I'm a huge fan of "White Space", but I do like the eye to travel around the card. So I tied this little tag to the ribbon around the top, which did the job :) Lots of sparkly gems and sweet roses, oh how I'd like some pretty tea cups in this design!

Recipe: My Time Made Easy-A Spot of Tea stamps, Pink Cardstock, Ric Rac/Cotton Ribbon, Adhesive Gems, Sakura -Clear Star glitter pen. Inks -TH DI-Milled Lavender/Dusty Concord/Worn Lipstick, Memento-London Fog.

It's quite unbelievable just how many people are suffering from Breast Cancer. Infact I know of 3 people right now going through this awfully, challenging time. One of my best friends Mum is going to be operated on today and to show they are in our thoughts, I sent this card...

There's nothing you can really say to lessen the pain, but it's essential to let them know you are there for them.

... for my sewing machine right now. I'd like to share a project with you today that I made a couple of weeks ago, you've all heard about it .....YEP -it's the "Seat cushion set".

We saw this adorable little chair in IKEA, which I thought would make a lovely Xmas gift for my new niece. Of course any girl should be able to sit in comfort, so I created this unique, matching cushion and back rest set.

I used materials from the IKEA "Off cut" bargain bucket, some ribbon, a dash of inspiration and lucky for me it all came together.

My "sewing head"is starting to form and ideas in my mind are taking shape in practice. Who'd of thought the girl that always broke the needles in Design Technology at school would actually be able to one day make use of such a machine? Incredible!

Wow, firstly apologies for not posting in what seems like such an age! It's been like a roller-coaster of happenings, feelings and exhaustion these last couple of weeks. So you see my absence from my blog, stash, yarn... was not through choice -simply lifes happenings. We've all suffered from a nasty virus that's been sweeping through the whole school.

However, life goes on and we've celebrated my sons 6th Birthday with a pool party which was great fun. 6, wow that's hard to write, where did those 6 years go? He got spoilt rotten by his friends and there is a heap of gifts still waiting to be played with! He's so not like me ;) On the other hand, he's not been well at all and that dreaded cough that keeps everyone awake at night is still hanging on.

What do you think of the party cakes? The kids always fight to have the piece of cake with the head on it, so this time I learnt from past mistakes and ordered minis! Delicious they were too!

And here's the cake we enjoyed at home (unfortunately I didn't make it) adorned with the fab "Cake Bunting" from Quirky Boots.

This week:

I have a couple of projects that I shall get around to posting! One that I made using this pattern...

I still have my chair cushion cover to share and a few things to photograph, but I'm sure I'll get around to it all before the week is out. Next week is half term, time to enjoy special time with the kiddies. Little crafting, but you never know what you can fit in, right?

I have loads of brand new downloads from the Pink Petticoat DT to get creative with and WOW they are lush! Check them out here. The new Xmas collections come with great free gifts -not to be missed! I shall be working on those and sharing a project each week between now and Christmas.

I also recieved a "Quick Cards" commission which I have spent the whole weekend on! I love them, they are the cutest -can't say any more! The issue wont be out until the new year, so you have a while to wait and they are worth the wait!

...but I do need to be prepared and I'm pretty sure the cold weather will be upon us before we know it! So here we have it, another pretty scarf made using a lovely pattern from "Cute & Easy Crochet".

James C Brett "Chunky with Wool" Shade -CW13 and 4.5mm Crochet Hook

This is going to be a gift, I've told myself I can't possibly keep them all! I managed to make the scarf in just one weekend, which I'm so chuffed about! I'm currently working on a scarf for hubby, although I think I'm going to need to order more wool before I can finish it -watch out Deramores!

I'm pleased to report my sewing machine lesson was very informative yesterday and I have learnt some interesting and very funky things to try at home. Fingers crossed I can pull it off as good as my teacher!

Such a Hoot Hoot!

Check out this super cute craft kit in all it's glory! Isn't it just the cutest?

I bought the "Hoot Hoot" kit from Quirky Boots and it was such a "Hoot" to make! Everything you'd need is included, including all materials, threads, stuffing, pins, needle....... the lot. It was great to give hand sewing another go and was a breeze to make with full instructions and templates at my finger tips. I'd deffinitely recommend this, it'd make a fab gift.

He's gone down a treat aswell, the kids have already sorted a rota whereby one takes him to bed tonight and tomorrow the other gets him. They are deffinately big fans of "Hoot Hoot"!

I have a sewing lesson in about an hour, another session at figuring out my new machine. Very much looking forward to that. Pop back tomorrow for some Crochet!

Curtain Call

Remember those curtains on my "To Do" list? My son decided he wanted to turn his bed into a den and required curtains to do so, so Mummy's new sewing machine came just at the right time!

I used material from IKEA and just went with the flow! I'm planning on making more to go all the way around which should be fun at play time.

I'm planning on starting another crochet make today, the weather has certainly turned and much more "Autumn-like" so I shall be hiding out inside today! On the way home from the school run the stretch of road up to our street is surrounded by trees and it was so beautiful to watch all the shades of leaves blowing swiftly to the ground. I think my scarves are going to come in handy very soon!

Well, I've missed "Meet me on Monday" this week and honestly I have so much everyday stuff on right now and party planning to do, that I'm not banking on much creative happenings this week!

I do, however have a lot of creative goodness from last week to share with you all. Starting off with some digi scrapbooking. I created these using the "Scrapbook Artist 2" software and "Ooga Booga" digi kit by "Digi Scrap Cafe".

Teacher Mug Cosies

One of my "To Do's" from last week was to create 4 Mug cosies for the children to give to their Teachers this Christmas.

I'm not sure if to fill them with tea or choccies? Maybe both! I'm really pleased how these turned out and a bargain to make too. They needed very little yarn and the IKEA mugs were great value too at only €1.50 each.

Pink Petticoat - Simple Sentiments

Pink Petticoat have just added a new "Simple Sentiments" download to their Boutique and WOW, what a release! You know that feeling when you want to make a card and you're just not sure what to say? Well, the "Simple Sentiments" include some lovely quotes that are just perfect for us card makers.

Here I teamed the new sentiments with the "Brocade" Colour Collection in "Sage".

I printed the pattern onto Vellum and sewed around the edges to form a pocket just behind the sentiment. I then filled the pouch with some flowers which you can see in the photograph. Doesn't it look cool? It's like are they there or are they not?

Check out the sewing! How straight? So happy with my new machine!

I then made this card in a similar way, filling the pouch with 60 punched flowers before stitching closed. A nice idea I thought for an up coming 60th Birthday?

Scarves galore...

... in my house right now! Trying to get ahead before the nights get longer and the frost starts to bite. Remember THIS scarf I made? Well, I loved it so much I made another only this time slightly tweaking the pattern.

The pattern consists of rows of 3 shells, repetitivly; which I changed to suit my style and only used two. It was of course quicker to make and I needed less wool.

I had planned to give this as a gift, however....I put it on and that was that!

Something different ...

...to am-i-a-dreamer - sewing! Here are my very first efforts using my new sewing machine.

"A bag" for my daughter...

..which she will not put down. It goes to bed with her, stays in the car whilst she's at school, even sits at the dinner table! I love that she loves it so much. It's the perfect size to fit a dolly in and she'll carry them around as she goes!

A "Cussion cover" for my son...

...with his beloved planes on! I made it with an opening at one side (like a pillow case) so the cussion could easily be removed for cleaning purposes. As with my daughter, this little guy snuggles it, sits on it at the dinner table and sleeps on it in bed! Good job it can easily be cleaned!

Both items are personalised with their names using the "Monogram" function on my machine -Very cool and sentimental I thought!I didn't use a pattern, simply experimented with some materials, tried a few things and to my amazement everything fell into place. Even my husband was impressed! He finds it hard to comment on my cards, as to him it's just "a card" he doesn't get the whole "creative" thang. But with these, he even went as far as to say they look "Professional"! :)

My copy of "Quick Cards Made Easy" Issue 92 has just dropped on the mat, have you seen it yet? I have two features on pages 30-31 and 56-57, I'd love to know what you think.

King Cole-Craft Cotton -White Wash

It was so fun to make, needed very little yarn and looks pretty sweet too. The thing I love most, is it's the perfect size and not one of those you'd have trouble fitting anything into!

The Pattern is from "Crochet Unravelled", available here. This has got to be the "Crochet Bible", I'd say it's essential to any learner. It's clear instructions for left & right handers, beautiful projects, the hints and invaluable tips make it a beginners must have!

I bet you fell off your chair though looking at these photos. Let's face it, as much as I think images are cute -I'm just not an "image colouring" kinda gal! However, once in a while it has to be done and thanks to Louise, I'm now a Pollycraft fan :)

Wendy Merino -Super Soft Chunky Wool (Colour -Pumice)

I found the pattern online here (thanks Anna) and had to have a go! I first noticed these little wonders on the front cover of the very first Mollie Makes issue, but unfortunately for me they had all sold out before I had cottoned on! Still, I wont be defeated and with the World Wide Web at my finger tips I need only search.

This week has simply rushed by, but mainly I was successful! My Mollie Makes Issue 5 arrived today -very excited about that! I had a peek at the latest Quick Cards, recieved my wool order, posted my giveaway which I hope you've checked out? And the t-shirt...well, I'll share what I managed to create from that soon :) My blog schedule remains on my "To Do" list for next week, however with what I shall be picking up Tuesday, I'm not sure if I'll find the time.

I did it! I ordered my sewing machine and it'll be delivered to the shop Tuesday when I'll have the first of 4 lessons and take home my new "baby"! How pleased am I? Incredibly, it's going to be my early birthday & Christmas pressie in one. I know, I'm impatient! She's gorgeous, she does all sorts and I just can't wait to be let loose with her!

A couple more of todays events...

...my bargains from IKEA! A suitable, well organised container for my sewing stash and 2 lots of material, off cuts that together cost a whopping €4.50! All I need to do now is figure out what I'll make with it!

Finally, I'd like to share a photo that I took today of my gorgeous family which I just love! My 2 boys had just been for a hair-cut and my little angel had to get in on the act.....♥

Using up those leftovers

Now, who was it that said life gets in the way...? My plans for yesterday didn't quite roll out due to a phone call from school to come and collect my daughter. Mad panic, as soon as you hear it's the school you wonder what on earth it could be right? So once I arrived and took one look at my little precious, I was a little shocked! One side of her face had ballooned and she was adoment she was not going to let the nurse look at her (typical my child, dreading the dentist tomorrow)!

In true Amelie style she kept her head down until we got home and then I finally managed to squeeze it out of her what had happened. My little, "toughie" 4 year old had been stung by a wasp and hadn't told anyone, didn't cry, nothing! She was most miffed she had to leave school, but I was so worried, I mean it looked like an awful allergic reaction or something. Very pleased to report the swelling has now gone down and we are back on track!

As Tom and Jerry runs I'm going to share a little card and matching tag I made yesterday using some left over Pink Petticoat papers I had laying around. There's nothing more satisfying that giving scraps a new lease of life!

The papers I used are from the "Autumn Blossoms" mini kit. This is a totally gorge kit containing a fab selection of co-ordinating colours. My fave has to be the printable kraft and the adorable Woodgrain!

Can you believe Autumn is right around the corner? I sure can't, especially as the bigger stores are clearing space for their Christmas goodies already *gasp*! I have started my Christmas list which is a bonus, I just need to stay motivated to avoid the last minute rush that creeps up all too sudden. And what did we find whilst shopping this morning? Take a look...

Hooray, time to start some serious organising this week! I have so many projects bouncing around in my head and I'm hoping to embark on a whole new adventure too. Fingers crossed!

Now, I know over on Jumbleberries, Clare has started "Meet Me on Monday". Somewhere to link your projects for the week, to share and indulge in everyone elses creativity. So I thought I'd give it a go! I always have lists on the go, I currently have about 3 A4 sheets, 2 sticky notes, an A3 sheet, not to mention my Ipod "Notes"! So to try and keep on top of "Blog related" things, I'm going to be brave and share my bits and bobs this week in hope that I keep on top of it all! Here goes...

...my little pixies will play. Play=Learn, Learn=Live ♥

I love to watch them "being" kids. It scares me to think they have already grown so much! I'm constantly begging them to stop growing!

Our sunflowers have brought on many a conversation over the summer. My favourite being "Mummy, the bees are pollenating the sunflowers again" ha... love them!

Well, they have deffinately seen better days, so it was time to cut off their heads (evil I know) and let the kids explore! Their love for nature right now is incredible. If they are not picking up slugs, they are collecting snails, catching creepy crawlies and digging up the odd mushroom or two that grow randomly in the garden!

So these will get planted next year, I think we are in for a blooming summer, if you know what I mean ♥ And fear not, more are still growing!

I was a little AWOL last week, but this week I have 3 days to do with what I wish and I have plans! My husband is finally home after 3 weeks away, so it's time to get back to some normality. We've had a great weekend, gorgeous weather on Saturday and today we celebrated a birthday at a beautiful Dutch castle. I have some projects to share and lots of ideas to get creative with!

On that note, have a fab week all.

10 Years...

...and I remember it like it was yesterday. I was working on Ramstein American Airbase at the time and we were all told to leave before the camp would lock down. After arriving home, switching on the tv and seeing what followed, over and over was just horriffic. I don't think there are any words to describe it.

Everyday life changed after that day. It'd take an extra hour to get to work, purely because of extra security. Military wore different uniforms, those that were normally worn in field.

9/11 is a day no-body old enough to remember it, will ever forget. To those who died, lost, sufferred... my thoughts and prayers are with you.

I have a treat this morning in the form of some "Plain Chocolate and Bubblegum" papers from the new paper ranges by Pink Petticoat Hydrangeas & Cherries and some gorgeous new sentiments which you are going to just love! Use them on or inside your cards, there is loads of choice and so worth a peek Tiny Blooming Sentiments!

Here's what I made, once I started I couldn't stop!

Recipe: Pink Petticoat - Hydrangeas (Plain Chocolate) & Cherries (Bubblegum) Colour Collections, Tiny Blooming Sentiments, Lace Ribbon, Adhesive Gems.

Recycled Elements: Plastic Netting, Tissue Paper, String, Corrugated card.
The best thing about Pink Petticoat papers, isn't the vast variety of shades, nor is it the abundance of choice. What I love the most, is the fact you need very little supplies to create as the papers do all the talking! The only things I needed to add was a little lace, and a few gems. The rest is recycled!

TIP: Don't believe for a minute that you have to spend a fortune to produce a pretty card.

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help? I'm trying to figure out which sewing machine to go for, but have ZERO knowledge! Does anyone own such a thing, that is just "fab" for all sorts of reasons that I am just going to fall in love with? It's got to be pretty straight forward as I'm soo NOT technical!

I have my eye on one, but I think it's purely a "want" rather than "need" kinda machine!

I'm just starting out, so do I go for something cheap and cheerful and invest when the need calls...Or do I jump straight in and go for quality? I do own a cheapy which really is awful, which is why I need a change! Oh....I guess I just answered my own question!

Any input would be greatly appreciated :)

A Crochet Scarf

And here it is, my latest crochet make...

Wendy Merino -Super Soft Chunky Wool (Colour -Pumice)

I used 5 1/2, 50g balls of yarn and a 7mm crochet hook. The pattern is from my "Cute & Easy Crochet" book and consists of lots and lots of shell detail. Due to the repetitive pattern, this was an easy project to pick up when I had a spare moment.

I feel like I've come a long way in such a short time. Concidering just 2 months ago I spent about an hour trying to make a slip stitch! Thank goodness it clicked as I'm loving the endless possibilities! Who says you can't learn from a book?

Now this one.......is for me!

As I mentioned earlier in the week, I needed to read up on some new techniques and here's the results of my little online shopping spree!

I've had a quick flick through these and I'm very impressed so far! The next batch arrived this morning, oh how I love Amazon!

It's looking like we are in for a gorgeous day, so I'm gunna head into the garden, grab a cuppa and have a lookie through these beautiful, shiny books! Not to mention keep an eye on my daughter, have just spotted her putting the tortoise down the slide!!! eeeek, poor thing!

Pink Petticoat - Cherries/Hydrangeas...

.. are the latest products available to purchase in the Pink Petticoat boutique. Everyone loves a download, the versatility and range of colours that suits every occassion. If you like, you can check them out: Cherries Hydrangeas.

I knew I wanted to use orange and couldn't decide which download to use first, so I used them both to create this card and co-ordinating envelope.

I tore and squiged patterned papers to create butterflies and even hand stitched antenae which was fun! I added a good amount of glitz in the form of irridescent glitter glue to give them some sparkle.

I attached a torn strip of the "Hydrangeas" paper across the bottom of my envelope. Also, to hide the stitching on the inside of the card I created an insert with pretty, punched edges.

Recipe:

Pink Petticoat -Hydrangea/Cherries colour collections (Cherry -Tangerine/Hydrangea -Navy)

Other -Irridescent glitter glue, TH Distress Ink-Spiced Marmelade and My Time Made Easy "All a Flutter" sentiment.

Tools: Needle & Thread
This is a simplish looking card, but took time and accuracy to make. I'm loving the colour combo, what are you making today?

I know, I know...where's the papercrafts right? I promise I'll work on some new material for my blog next week! I wouldn't want my lovely followers to stop following due to the abundance of yarn on here lately. I'm just having fun exploring this new past time and it makes me happy.

A "Shell-Style" Mug Cosie.

(Bravo Jacquard 100% Acrylic Yarn -Colour Partie)

Mug cosies are so fun to make and as they are such small projects, they are easy to get on with whenever you find a minute.

I created this from scratch, no pattern, nothing...just an idea and followed it through.

I didn't want to create a huge, panel fastening as that would have hidden the beautiful detail. A double row-latch works just as well.

Here you can see the detail all the way around.

As I was breezing through blogs yesterday I came across a link on Deanne's blog to make the most delicious looking cookies. I just had to try them, they are yum and I know the kids will be very happy when I tell them what's waiting for them at home! They are both huge smartie fans, so there was no hesitation, I had to bake!

Sewing gasp a Mollie Make!

The thought of sewing anything, be it a sock or something creative would lierally make me cringe to say the least! Other than the odd button on a card, the last time I did any form of sewing has to of been in infants (age 4) making a calender for my parents!

Since reading Mollie Makes, I've become more and more interested in needlework, the idea of it and all the posibilites it brings. So when issue four arrived with a fab "Knot Necklace Kit" free gift, I knew I had to try it. The materials were in their basic form, a few sheets of felt, 2 buttons and some red cord. With very little knowledge of any kind of stitching I got to work and gave it a go.

The end result!

I have to admit, I was a little thrown that the flowers were not pre-cut for me which is why I'd put this to one side for a while! Then I remembered I have the best tool ever to give me a helping hand :) My Big Shot! I guess it is cheating, but I wasn't ready to throw myself right into the deepend just yet! I used "Big Scallop and Circle Nestabilites" to form the flowers.

I'm thrilled that rather than copy the diagram, I created a necklace that best suited my current skill and am actually taken a back how it turned out! Hence me in the pics actually wearing it!

I used white cotton for the fine detail, different to what the instructions stated as white is all I have and I think more red would have been too much!

Here you can see some of the stitching I did to piece the flowers together, before threading onto the cord.

OK, so that's me now on a mission to progress this skill and see where I can go with it. I'm going to be asking for a fancy sewing machine for my birthday, that's for sure! First things first -Amazon, I need to buy books! I'm very excited about the "Hoot Hoot DIY kit" I purchased from "Quirky Boots" yesterday, yes it involves stitching and I can't wait to try it!

4th post of the day and so far the busiest posting month of the year for me, with July (15 posts) close seccond. It was so frustrating for me over the summer not being able, not only to "get crafty" but also to post more often. I hate the thought of people thinking I'd abbandoned my blog *gasp*! Never, but my kids always come first.

Here is a little project inspired not only by my children, but a fellow blogger and friend Kathy.

I'd asked my children "What's Mummy going to do when both of you are at school?" and they oh so sweetly replied "Have a rest and make cards" bless! When I told them how much I was going to miss them they told me I should make them a card for when they got home. How cute is that? So...I did!

Now Kathy, does the most amazing things with distress inks and they look awesome, so I thought I'd give it a go to decorate the mini base cards. So I grabbed a small piece of sponge and off I went! Probably not the most technical way of doing it but hey, I enjoyed it!

Recipe: Hampton Arts-Mini Flip Flop Stamps, Waltzing Mouse -Victorian Alphabet stamps /Teeny Trees sentiment stamp, Tim Holtz Distress Inks- Spiced Marmalade/Antique Linen/Worn Lipstick, Memento -Rich Cocoa ink.

Now, I am actually pretty impressed how these little crackers turned out. I thought it would be a great design and so appropriate to create mini "Alphabet Flash Card" looking cards. What do you think?

All Change.

As you are aware, I'm a SAHM to my two wonderful (most of the time) children. They are my #1 priority in life and creating for me was always something I'd do when the kids were in bed or during the odd "free morning". Well, both of them are in school now and from mid September onwards I shall have a full week on my hands.

There is so much I've achieved so far, simply by trial and error. My dream of creating for a magazine has come true, so now it's time for a whole new dream. I want something I can work towards, to be dedicated to.

Until now, my main interest was always cardmaking and the odd layout/mini book here and there. At the moment I'm feeling more adventurous, more at ease, more willing to be brave and branch out. I have visited some totally inspirational blogs and with the help of "Mollie Makes" magazines, I have become blown away by the world of creativity, the versatility and abundance of outlets it has to offer.

So, I now have the time, I have some ideas of what I want to try next. Over the next couple of weeks I'll be putting together a "list" containing all of the things I want to learn and achieve through creativity. I feel it's my time.

What started out as a hobby has become "my job" if you like? I feel like I need to be doing it, but at the same time, it's one of those jobs everyone wishes to have! It makes me smile, it occupies my time, I learn so much from it and I can't ever see myself doing anything but.

I hope you'll tag along with me on this journey and see where we end up! Fingers crossed, it's all good :)

Debbie Bliss, Fair Trade ecoaran -Colour 32625 (100% Cotton) from Deramores / 4.0mm hook. Pattern taken from this book.

This didn't take long at all and works really well. My daughter likes to wear it as a bracelet!

My current "Big Project" is being created from this little lot...

I'm about 1/3 of the way through at the moment and I can't wait to get going again once the kids are in bed. Is crochet taking over my love of papercraft? No, it's just easier to get on with with the kids home and there's a lot less mess to tidy up afterwards! Bonus :)

"Anything Goes" -APFP Challenge

Ooh it's getting late, but I must share a card that I made this morning. The kids were busy creating their own pictures from pasta, so I grabbed some left overs and made this card which I'll enter into the "Anything Goes" challenge at A Passion for Papertrey.

I'm so in love with "orange" right now, hence the new blog design! Not entirely sure where that sprung from, however I can see it becoming a regular on here!

This card is one of those that I could stare at for ages! I don't know what it is, it's perhapps the lack of stash, abundance of charactor? I just love it!

A Crochet Scarf -My first big project!

Ok, so it's been like an hour...time to share something a bit special :) Something I've been working on that is now complete! Brace yourselves peeps....

A very lovely scarf, which didn't work out exactly like the pattern, but what the heck! I think it's pretty damn good none the less!

The original pattern is from "Cute and Easy Crochet" which was such a great purchase!

I used 3, 50g balls of Debbie Bliss, Fair Trade ecoaran -Colour 32625 (100% Cotton) from Deramores and a 4.5mm hook. I have to say it was much trickier to crochet with cotton than wool, does anyone else find that? On the plus side I love the detail cotton gives.

I'm soo pleased with it, makes me smile just looking at it ...YAY! I have another project planned too, hmmm....when to start it?

A specaial card...

...to wish my daughter "Good luck", not just today but in all her academic wishes. I'm so pleased with this one. You know when you have an idea in your head, but by the time you finish the card it doesn't look anything like the original idea? Well, this one does!

A whole load of Papertrey Ink goodness went into this one... only the best for the best!

All dies are by Papertrey Ink and this is an exclusive, being the first time I've used them! Concidering I've waited 9 weeks to get crafty with them, I think I deserve a medal!

I love the white space on this card, fit for a princess, my princess :)

Teary Towers!

Hey all. Oh my, what an emotional roller-coaster! Today sees my baby girl heading off to start her first day of school.

Here she is in all her glory...

My reason for living ...

Both treasures all raring to go, the only emotional wreck was ....oh, that'd be me!

It's been a trying day so far, hoping to figure out how and why my kids grew up so fast. It's so not fair *sob...sob* They on the other hand were the most prepared, motivated kids ever, grabbed their bags and off they went! I guess it's that feeling that I can't look after their every need, they are with someone else and not me. I know, I can't make much sense of it myself! Luckily Amelie is only going 2 days a week for the first month, so we'll get lots of time together, to chill, to craft... and for me to get my head around it all! On a plus note, I was mistaken for a high school student in the entrance today! Not bad for someone pushing 30!

OK, I'm going to pull myself together now, grab some caffeine and try and think of all the reasons why this is a good thing. They are independant, smart, charming little individuals and I'm so proud of everything they've ever done. Every little smile, every cheeky little motion, each time they ask the funniest things... Ok, I'm smiling :) On that note I'm going to sort through some photos and see what I have to Blog.

Evening all, just swinging by to share a card I made last week. I used My Time Made Easy -Bee Loved stamps and Sentiments to create this one...

"Vintage" meets "CAS" with a splash of Promarker essence!

Some irridescent glitter glue to highlight the daisies gives elegance, whilst the "Crackle paint" gives that "shabby/chic" burst.

This was a difficult card to make as I wasn't sure if marrying these 2 very different styles together would work? I'm convinced now that it's grown on me! What do you think?
